OBAMA’S NEW AMERICA

As Obama and his puppet masters continue to bankrupt America, will we soon see the announcement below?
America has just become a member of the Global Union Of Socialist
Nation States. Before Congress voted to disband itself, nullify the
constitution, and placing the jurisdiction of of America’s justice
system into the hands of the International Courts, they named Mr. Obama
as the sole Delegate to represent interests of the United Socialist
Nation State in the United Nations. Mr. Obama’s appointment is a
lifetime Appointment. Mr. Obama has picked for his advisers and policy
makers,
George Soros, and the entire membership of the Democracy Alliance.
The people of America are now free from the burden of going to the
polls to vote, worrying about a job, or paying taxes. You will be
assigned a job by your community ACORN supervisor. Since there will no
longer be any Currency, you will be issued a voucher to obtain your
basic needs.
The elderly and disabled will be relocated to the new National Care
Facilities being built. So you the healthy working class will no longer
have the burden of caring for a disabled or elderly relative.
Since it has been demonstrated in past elections, the people of the
Former United States Of America, desired a government which supplied
their every need from the cradle to the grave, and which required little
or no effort or thought on their part. I am sure we will have a
peaceful and contented people.
All of our Military is now under the control of the United Nations,
but we have mobilized a National Civilian Security Force, to maintain
order, track down criminals and turn them over to the International
Justice system, where if they are found guilty, depending upon the
severity of the crime as determined by the International court, will be
either executed or sentenced to be confined in detention work centers.
We, the United Nations Delegates to the Global Union Of Socialist
Nation States pledge that all who are able to work, will work, and that
those unable to work will be taken care of.

When I see our ‘Prez’ apologizing to European Socialists who hate us anyway, for America being what it is..I want to scream!
‘New and improved’, quiet and docile..isn’t that the way they describe a
neutered dog? Well, there are a lot of Americans who refuse to go
quietly into the night without a fight. The news media wanted their pet
project in the White House so they could pat each other on the back and
proclaim “look how wonderful and liberal we are”. Well, say hello to
reality, folks. Mainstream America is getting mad. We don’t trust our
Government anymore. We have been betrayed by the thieving ‘banking
oversight committee’.
Our economy is a shambles and all the Democrats want to do is tax us to
death. N. Korea launchers a long range rocket and Obama says the world
should do something. Yeah, I’m impressed already.
Election day can’t come soon enough for me.
Good honest people feel completely betrayed and are simply fed up. Obama
said that we ‘cling to our guns and our bibles’…Good. I’d rather cling
to those then to his bogus socialism.

That was such a well written, scary article that basically expressed
the fears of 1/2 of America. Obama may have one the election, but it
was only with the help of biased media that made him appear like a God.
He preyed on the poor, the uneducated and the inexperienced young person
who has no real understanding of the world of politics. He filled
peoples heads with dreams of stimulus checks and with the medias help
made people feel they were racist if they did not vote for him. I
personally don’t feel he is even a natural born citizen of our country
and it definitely not to be trusted.
He didn’t, however win by a landslide, which he should have with all
of the money and media help he had. Americans are not stupid and will
not be fooled by this want to be Messiah. As for the polls, I wouldn’t
exactly trust what they say. In my area NOBAMA shirts are quite popular
and will be until we get this fraud out of office. I am a democrat who
would not vote for a man with such a devious background of associates
and ideology. His policies will fail, but America will survive and
thrive once we remove the hopeful socialist from office.

It’s a great piece of writing that summarizes the feelings of many
middle class citizens. Some of us hope these plans work, but if not even
those who have been blinded by the rhetoric won’t be able to avoid the
truth of hyperinflation, across the board tax increases and a new,
expanded war. Hopefully, we’ll be able to reverse the damage that seems
so obvious to most of us. Although some say Obama has a mandate to
spend, borrow and print trillions, I don’t believe he would have been
elected if the plan details were publicized during the campaign. If he
fails, he has done an injustice to every future minority candidate.

Don’t write America off just yet. We’ll get rid of this Presidential
turd-bird and be back at it soon. The purpose of this election was to
show the world that quota babies aren’t what they are cracked up to be.

I have never, in my life. read anything as scary or disgusting as
what you wrote. If this were to happen, I can only pray God will take me
soon, since I will not have a life anymore.

This article could be
seen as racist by some but on the other hand it could also be seen as a
reflection of our own reality that somehow our politicians refuse to see. The
interpretation is up to the reader, however it is food for
thought…

In 1978-9 I was living
and studying in
Denmark . But in 1978 – even in
Copenhagen , one
didn’t see Muslim immigrants.
The Danish
population embraced visitors, celebrated the exotic, went out of its way to
protect each of its citizens. It was proud of its new brand of socialist
liberalism one in development since the conservatives had lost power in 1929 – a
system where no worker had to struggle to survive, where one ultimately
could count upon the state as in, perhaps, no other western nation at the
time.
The rest of
Europe saw the Scandinavians as free-thinking,
progressive and infinitely generous
in their welfare policies. Denmark boasted low crime rates, devotion to the
environment, a superior educational system and a history of
humanitarianism.
Denmark was also most
generous in its immigration policies – it offered the best
welcome in Europe to the new immigrant: generous welfare payments from first
arrival plus additional perks in transportation, housing and education. It was
determined to set a world example for inclusiveness and
multiculturalism. How could it have predicted that one day in 2005 a
series of political cartoons
in a newspaper would spark violence that would leave dozens dead
in the streets – all
because its commitment to multiculturalism would come
back to
bite?
By the 1990’s the
growing urban Muslim population was obvious – and its unwillingness to
integrate into Danish society was obvious. Years of immigrants had
settled into Muslim-exclusive enclaves. As the Muslim leadership
became more vocal about what they considered the
decadence of
Denmark
‘s liberal way of life, the Danes – once so welcoming – began
to feel
slighted. Many Danes had begun to see Islam as incompatible with
their long-standing values:
belief in personal liberty and free speech, in equality for women, in
tolerance for other ethnic groups, and a deep pride in Danish heritage and
history.
An article by Daniel
Pipes and Lars Hedegaard, in which
they forecasted, accurately, that the growing immigrant problem in
Denmark would explode. In the article
they reported:
‘Muslim immigrants
constitute 5 percent of the population but consume upwards of 40 percent
of the welfare spending.’
‘Muslims
are only 4 percent of Denmark’s 5.4 million people but
make up a majority of the
country’s convicted rapists, an especially combustible issue given that
practically all the female victims are non-Muslim. Similar, if
lesser, disproportions are found in other crimes.’
‘Over time, as Muslim
immigrants increase in numbers, they wish less to mix with the
indigenous population. A recent survey finds that only 5 percent of young
Muslim immigrants would
readily marry a Dane.’
‘Forced marriages –
promising a newborn daughter in
Denmark to a
male cousin in the home
country, then compelling her to marry him, sometimes on pain of death – are one
problem.’
‘Muslim leaders openly
declare their goal of introducing Islamic law once
Denmark
‘s Muslim population grows large enough – a not-that-remote prospect. If present
trends persist, one sociologist estimates, every third inhabitant of
Denmark in 40 years will be
Muslim.’
It is easy to
understand why a growing number of Danes would feel that Muslim immigrants show
little respect for Danish values and laws.
An example
is the phenomenon common to other European countries and
Canada: some Muslims in
Denmark who opted to leave the Muslim
faith have been
murdered in the name of Islam, while others hide in fear for
their lives. Jews are also
threatened and harassed openly by Muslim leaders in Denmark, a country
where once Christian citizens worked to smuggle out nearly all of their 7,000
Jews by night to
Sweden – before the Nazis
could invade. I think of my
Danish friend Elsa – who, as a teenager, had dreaded crossing
the street to the bakery every morning under the eyes of
occupying Nazi soldiers – and I
wonder what she would say today.
In 2001,
Denmark
elected the most conservative government in some 70 years – one that had
some decidedly non-generous ideas about liberal unfettered immigration.
Today, Denmark has the
strictest immigration policies in
Europe . (Its effort to protect itself has been met with
accusations of ‘racism’ by liberal
media across Europe – even as other governments struggle to right the social
problems wrought by years of too-lax immigration.)
If you wish to become
Danish, you must attend three years of language classes. You must pass
a test on
Denmark ‘s history, culture, and a
Danish language
test.
You must live in
Denmark for 7 years before applying
for citizenship.
You must demonstrate an
intent to work, and have a job waiting. If you wish to bring a spouse into
Denmark , you must both be
over 24 years of age, and you won’t find it so
easy anymore to move your friends and family to
Denmark with
you.
You will not be allowed
to build a mosque in
Copenhagen . Although
your children have a choice
of some 30 Arabic culture and language schools in
Denmark
, they will be strongly encouraged to assimilate to Danish
society in ways that past
immigrants weren’t.
In 2006, the Danish
minister for employment, Claus Hjort Frederiksen, spoke publicly of the
burden of Muslim immigrants on the Danish welfare system, and it was
horrifying: the government’s welfare committee had calculated
that if immigration from Third World countries were blocked,
75 percent of the cuts
needed to sustain the huge welfare system in coming decades
would be unnecessary. In other words, the welfare system, as
it existed,
was being exploited by immigrants to the point of
eventually bankrupting the
government. ‘We are simply forced to adopt a new policy
on immigration.’
‘The calculations of
the welfare committee are terrifying and show how unsuccessful the
integration of immigrants has been up to now,’ he said.
A large thorn in the
side of
Denmark ‘s imams is the Minister of
Immigration and Integration, Rikke Hvilshoj. She makes no bones about
the new policy toward
immigration, ‘The number of foreigners coming to the country makes a
difference,’ Hvilshoj says, ‘There is an inverse
correlation between
how many come here and how well we can receive the foreigners
that come.’ And on Muslim
immigrants needing to demonstrate a willingness to blend in, ‘In my view,
Denmark should be a country with room
for different cultures and religions. Some values, however,
are more important than
others. We refuse to question democracy, equal rights, and freedom of
speech.’
Hvilshoj has paid a
price for her show of backbone. Perhaps to test her resolve, the leading radical
imam in Denmark, Ahmed Abdel Rahman Abu Laban, demanded that
the government pay blood money to the family of a Muslim who was murdered
in a suburb of Copenhagen, stating that the family’s thirst for revenge
could be thwarted for money. When Hvilshoj dismissed his demand, he
argued that in Muslim culture the payment of retribution
money was common, to which
Hvilshoj replied that what is done in a Muslim country is not necessarily what
is done in Denmark.
The Muslim reply came
soon after: her
house was torched while she, her husband and children slept.
All managed to escape
unharmed, but she and her family were moved to a secret location and she and
other ministers were assigned bodyguards for the first time – in a country
where such murderous violence was once so scarce.
Her government has slid
to the right, and her borders have tightened. Many believe that what happens in
the next decade will determine whether
Denmark survives as a bastion of good
living, humane thinking and social responsibility,
or whether it becomes a nation at civil war with supporters of Sharia
law.
And meanwhile,
Canadians clamor for stricter immigration policies, and demand an end to state
welfare programs that allow many immigrants to live on the
public dole. As we in Canada look at the enclaves of Muslims
amongst us, and see those
who enter our shores too easily, dare live on our taxes, yet refuse to embrace
our culture, respect our traditions, participate in our
legal system, obey our laws, speak our language, appreciate our history.
We would do well to look to
Denmark , and say a prayer for her
future and for our own.

politicians, journalists, and green lobbyists love them; numbers with
megaW of installed or planned new capacities are touted in all kinds of
pamphlets and announcements. There is just a little fly in the ointment.
The term CAPACITY no longer has the meaning it used to have.
Christians Take A Stand/A Cross in Your front yard is a good beginning.

everyone who is a Christian. If Christians don’t begin to take a stand
together we won’t be standing at all. The cross in the front yard is a good
beginning.
When
driving to, from, and through Frankenmuth, Michigan, I’m always
intrigued with the many small simple crosses in the front yards
of the homes we pass by. Those crosses are a statement of
support for Frankenmuth’s Christian foundation.
Two
years ago an atheist living there complained about two crosses
on a bridge in town. He requested that they be
removed and the town removed them. He then decided that,
since he was so successful with that, the city shield should
also be changed since it had on it, along with other symbols, a
heart with a cross inside signifying the city’s Lutheran
beginnings.
At
that point, the residents decided they had had enough.
Hundreds of residents made their opinions known by placing small
crosses in their front yards. Seeing this quiet but
powerful statement from the community, the man removed his
complaint. Those simple crosses remain in those front
yards today.
After
passing those crosses for two years, it finally hit me that a
small cross in millions of front yards across our country could
provide a powerful and inspiring message for all Americans
passing them every day. I think it might be time to take
this idea across America.
We
have an administration that says "we are not a Christian nation"
and everywhere you look the ACLU and others are trying to remove
from our history and current lives any reference to God, prayer,
or the fact that our country was founded on Judeo-Christian
principles. Our administration can’t bring themselves to
talk about "radical Muslims or Islamic terrorists" for fear of
offending them, but they can talk about Americans
"clinging to their guns and their religion", or insinuate that
our own military troops coming home from service overseas might
turn into terrorists. The majority of Americans are
Christians, why are we letting this happen to us?
It’s
time to stand up and make a statement…a small, quiet, but
powerful statement. If you agree, place a small white
cross in your front yard or garden for all to see that they are
not alone. It would be a beautiful thing to see crosses
all across America.
God
has richly blessed America but America is falling short of
returning thanks for it…we can help to change
that

Minimum estimate of Saturday’s crowd on the Mall: 300,000 Maximum estimate: One million people.
Meaning
of the crowd: An enormous upheaval in the emotions of average Americans
is coursing through the country, with a certain significance for
November’s elections. It will have a lasting, profound impact on
America’s political direction.
Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin provided
an occasion to glimpse this undeniable phenomenon. Of course, the
interpretations of what the phenomenon is and what its consequences will
be will keep the chattering class busy for weeks, if not years.
Some
on the left are trying, with increasing desperation, to use old and new
media to brand this surge in public participation in politics as
sinister, even though it was preceded by a surge from the left of people
and energy into President Obama’s campaign.
The new tools of
communication and the ease of movement have unleashed a tumultuous era
of politics driven by the demand that elites not attempt to speak for,
or condescend to, average citizens. They will not quietly or passively
be lectured to, or insulted by, the president, House Speaker Nancy
Pelosi, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg or any anchor on any network,
any columnist in any paper, or any blogger on any Web site.
The
people on the Mall and the millions more who watched the gathering with
satisfaction rather than fear are quite simply sick of the left, and of
its vast sneer toward the traditions, values and, yes, faith of the
American middle class.
The American Enterprise Institute’s Arthur
Brooks has quite accurately described America as a 70/30 nation, with
the 70 percent presently massively underrepresented in the federal
government, the Manhattan-Beltway media elite and academia.
The 70
percent is appalled by the placebo economics practiced by the president
and the Congress over the past two years, shocked by its profligacy
with the wealth of the republic, and sickened by the looting of the next
generation’s opportunities.
The 70 percent did not want Obamacare, but it has been thrust upon them.
The 70 percent did not want federal judges to declare "game over" in the complex discussion of what marriage is and means.
The
70 percent want a fence on the border that works, and do not want their
concern over unregulated immigration dismissed as nativisim.
The
70 percent are not ashamed of their belief in God, deeply resent being
labeled bigots because they view ground zero as land that ought not to
be exploited for "messaging" of any sort by any group, and are enraged
by the scorn which they encounter everywhere in media except Fox News
and talk radio.
The 70 percent believe that the federal government
is remote and clueless, and that the Constitution’s principles of
enumerated and limited powers and the sovereignty of the states are
vibrant, important core values to the republic.
The 70 percent
think Iran is in the grip of an evil, theocratic fascism, and that
Israel is our true friend and ally deserving of our full-throated
support.
We are in the middle of a perilous economic passage to a
new competitiveness across the globe. We are watching other countries
across the globe respond to the new demands of competitiveness by
shrinking the public sector and encouraging private-sector growth. But
American education is crippled by bureaucracy and burdened by the
inability of a political class to demand reform of the practices and
pensions of the public sector. Children have been hostages of this
countrywide collapse of common sense for a generation, despite wave
after wave of "reform".
Two years into what had been sold as a new
politics and a new approach, the 70 percent are fully aware that they
have been conned, suckered, and taken to the cleaners by a
hyper-ideological amalgam of leftist public intellectuals, snarling
bloggers, career politicians with limited abilities who are often
corrupt, and a president wholly inexperienced in the management of
complex problems who is in way over his head and prisoner to slogans and
schemes that make for great campus debates — but for disaster in the
real world.
The people on the Mall were saying much more than
"this far and no farther." They were saying "rewind and restart." They
will hold that thought and that purpose as they peacefully, but with
great passion and purpose, insist on real change come Nov. 2.

Barack Obama is
setting a record-setting number of records
during his first year in office.
Largest
budget ever. Largest deficit ever. Largest
number of broken promises ever. Most
self-serving speeches ever. Largest number of
agenda-setting failures ever. Fastest dive in
popularity ever.
Wow! Talk about
change.
Just one year ago. fresh from his
inauguration celebrations. President Obama was
flying high. After one of the nation’s most
inspiring political campaigns, the election of
America ‘s first black president had captured
the hopes and dreams of millions. To his devout
followers, it was inconceivable that a year
later his administration would be gripped in
self-imposed crisis.
Of course, they
don’t see it as self-imposed. It’s all George
Bush’s fault.
George Bush, who doesn’t
have a vote in congress and who no longer
occupies the White House, is to blame for it
all.
He broke Obama’s promise to put all
bills on the White House web site for five days
before signing them.
He broke Obama’s
promise to have the congressional health care
negotiations broadcast live on C-SPAN.
He
broke Obama’s promise to end earmarks.
He
broke Obama’s promise to keep unemployment from
rising above 8 percent.
He broke Obama’s
promise to close the detention center at
Guantanamo in the first year.
He broke
Obama’s promise to make peace with direct, no
precondition talks with America ‘s most
hate-filled enemies during his first year in
office, ushering in a new era of global
cooperation.
He broke Obama’s promise to
end the hiring of former lobbyists into high
White House jobs.
He broke Obama’s
promise to end no-compete contracts with the
government.
He broke Obama’s promise to
disclose the names of all attendees at closed
White House meetings.
He broke Obama’s
promise for a new era of bipartisan cooperation
in all matters .
He broke Obama’s promise
to have chosen a home church to attend Sunday
services with his family by Easter of last
year.
Yes. it’s all George Bush’s fault.
President Obama is nothing more than a puppet in
the never-ending. failed Bush
administration.
If
only George Bush wasn’t still in charge, all of
President Obama’s problems would be solved. His
promises would have been kept, the economy would
be back on track, Iran would have stopped its
work on developing a nuclear bomb and would be
negotiating a peace treaty with Israel . North
Korea would have ended its tyrannical regime,
and integrity would have been restored to the
federal government.
Oh, and did I mention
what it would be like if the Democrats. under
the leadership of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid,
didn’t have the heavy yoke of George Bush around
their necks? There would be no ear marks, no
closed-door drafting of bills, no increase in
deficit spending, no special-interest influence
(unions), no vote buying (Nebraska,
Louisiana).
If only George Bush wasn’t
still in charge, we’d have real change by
now.
All the broken promises, all the
failed legislation and delay (health care
reform, immigration reform) is not President
Obama’s fault or the fault of the
Democrat-controlled Congress. It’s all George
Bush’s fault.
Take for example the
decision of Eric Holder, the president’s
attorney general, to hold terrorists’ trials in
New York City . Or his decision to try the
Christmas Day underpants bomber as a
civilian.
Two disastrous
decisions.
Certainly those were bad
judgments based on poor advice from George
Bush.
Need more proof?
You might
recall that when Scott Brown won last month’s
election to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts ,
capturing "the Ted Kennedy seat," President
Obama said that Brown’s victory was the result
of the same voter anger that propelled Obama
into office in 2008. People were still angry
about George Bush and the policies of the past
10 years and they wanted change.
Yes,
according to the president, the voter rebellion
in Massachusetts last month was George Bush’s
fault.
Therefore, in retaliation, they
elected a Republican to the Ted Kennedy seat,
ending a half-century of domination by
Democrats.
It is all George Bush’s
fault.
Will the failed administration of
George Bush ever end, and the time for hope and
change ever arrive?
Will President Obama
ever accept responsibility for
something… anything?

week two events provide opportunities to understand the political
influences on climate science and the real influence of climate on
politics.
First was Sean Hannity’s program The Green Swindle,
a very good overview of the entire range of issues from hijacking of
climate science by people at the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) and the

The
Ground Zero Mosque debate is only the latest in a long series of
incidents in which liberals have chosen to side with Islamists, while
denying their victims a fair hearing or any hearing at all. Opponents of
the mosque are painted as “Islamophobic Extremists” representing
nothing but bigotry and hate. This is much the same way that the liberal
cultural elite has placed the blame for over a thousand years of Muslim
persecution of Jews on “Zionist Extremism”. While a Koran in the toilet
becomes a front page story, the ongoing persecution of Hindus,
Zoroastrians and Christians in Muslim countries is only a footnote in
the State Department’s human rights report.

Obama’s August Surprise: Turning AZ and 22 other States over to the UN

After turning NYC over to the Islamists and leftist sympathizers, via
endorsing their 9/11 Victory Mosque (any Muslim project called “The
Cordoba Initiative” has to be just that), Dictator-in-Chief Obama
believes that he has found the way to both destroy opposition to his
Orwellian plans for the former United States of America and introduce
OUR country’s final demise.
For
attempting to do that which the Obama refuses to do (his job under the
US Constitution—not George Soros and friends), the tyrant has now turned
Arizona and the twenty-two other US States trying to protect their
citizens over the patently corrupt (Obama’s kind of organization) United
Nations as “human rights violators.” Now disregarding the US
Constitution and US law entirely—and getting away with it—The Obama and
his worldwide anti-US Marxist minions have begun to divvy up the booty
from that which was once America. Note: Despite our protests and
marches, Obama believes he silenced We-the-People long ago. Didn’t Hugo
Chavez affect something similar in Venezuela? But, let’s face the
truth, folks. Even Chavez didn’t try to destroy his OWN country. But,
considering his true birth place, neither did Obama.
In his boldest move yet to destroy OUR country, Dictator-in-Chief
Obama has now decided to bring the full force of the world against those
who oppose their own slavery at his and his masters’ hands. And the
overseers at the United Nations are applauding The Obama’s move. As the
people of the United States of America are—in greater and greater
numbers each and every day—supporting Arizona and other states for
working to protect US citizens from the now unstopped marching phalanges
of illegal immigrants composed of drug cartel members, Central American
gangs, Hezbollah, other middle eastern terrorists and millions of
others who sap the resources of sovereign States (entering via our
southern border), the tyrant believes he has found a way to stop the
States and us.
Now “elevating” himself to the level of an Islamic Mufti, Obama has
effectively issued a fatwa against Arizona and every other US State that
opposes their own demise. Obama has issued an, heretofore,
unprecedented report to the “UN High Commissioner for Human Rights” (a
bad joke considering the organization itself) outlining his carefully
crafted and manufactured ‘horrors’ the USA has committed against humans
(I suspect that means freedom and liberty are two of them), he has
given full sway to the UN to go after any US States that do not comply
with the tyrant’s (and soon to be King of the World?) commandments.
Suffice it to say, the UN is more than pleased to do so!
Replete with its proclamations for perversities of all kinds, in
order to support any and all fully suppressive and exploitative
totalitarian regimes (as long as it gets a substantial piece of the
action), the UN is more than willing to go follow The Obama’s
“requests.”
This latest perversion of law by The Obama is, yet, another patent
treasonous action against the USA. Each and every day, he is racking up
more and more of them. Then, without a care in the world save how to
better give his union thugs and other countries funds stolen from the US
taxpayer (where lots of our “stimulus” dollars ended up) and then
frivolously wasting and spending what’s left, he and his family are now
working to establish the record of “most vacations taken while occupying
the US White House—and still being able to destroy the country.” I
suspect that record will never be broken—but, if he isn’t removed, the
country will.
In November 2010, if we do not take back at least the House of
Representatives we will have no chance—whatsoever—of surviving the beast
and its minions. But, even worse, if we don’t get rid of said beast
our destruction is also assured. If we can rid ourselves of both—and
restore our Republic—we must for all time say “Never Again” to tyranny
and all would-be tyrants. We cannot and must not allow this to happen
to our country, our loved ones and us even one more time…never. This
time, we must remember.

If
you think it’s offensive for a Muslim group to exploit the 9/11
atrocity, you’re an anti-Muslim bigot and un-American to boot. It is a
claim so bizarre, so twisted, so utterly at odds with common sense that
it’s hard to believe anyone would assert it except as some sort of dark
joke. Yet for the past few weeks, it has been put forward, apparently in
all seriousness, by those who fancy themselves America’s best and
brightest, from the mayor of New York all the way down to Peter Beinart.
What accounts for this madness? Charles Krauthammer notes a pattern:
Promiscuous
charges of bigotry are precisely how our current rulers and their vast
media auxiliary react to an obstreperous citizenry that insists on
incorrect thinking.
— Resistance to the vast
expansion of government power, intrusiveness and debt, as represented by
the Tea Party movement? Why, racist resentment toward a black
president.
— Disgust and alarm with the federal
government’s unwillingness to curb illegal immigration, as crystallized
in the Arizona law? Nativism.
— Opposition to
the most radical redefinition of marriage in human history, as expressed
in Proposition 8 in California? Homophobia.
— Opposition to a 15-story Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero? Islamophobia.
Now
we know why the country has become "ungovernable," last year’s excuse
for the Democrats’ failure of governance: Who can possibly govern a
nation of racist, nativist, homophobic Islamophobes?
Krauthammer
portrays this as a cynical game: "Note what connects these issues. In
every one, liberals have lost the argument in the court of public
opinion. . . . What’s a liberal to do? Pull out the bigotry charge, the
trump that preempts debate and gives no credit to the seriousness and
substance of the contrary argument."
But this has its limits as a
political strategy. Krauthammer writes that "the Democrats are going to
get beaten badly in November," and no one will credit him for boldness
in that prediction. Some may disagree with his reckoning as to the
reason for that likely loss: that "a comeuppance is due the arrogant
elites whose undisguised contempt for the great unwashed prevents them
from conceding a modicum of serious thought to those who dare oppose
them."
But can anyone argue that a show of contempt is a winning
political strategy? The question answers itself and implies that the
contempt is genuine.

What
is the nature of this contempt? In part it is the snobbery of the
cognitive elite, exemplified by a recent New York Times Web column by Timothy Egan
called "Building a Nation of Know-Nothings"–or by the viciousness
directed at Sarah Palin, whose folksy demeanor and state-college
background seem terribly déclassé not just to liberals but to a good
number of conservatives in places like New York City.
In more
cerebral moments, the elitists of the left invoke a kind of Marxism Lite
to explain away opinions and values that run counter to their own. Thus
Barack Obama’s notorious remark to the effect that economic deprivation
embitters the proles, so that they cling to guns and religion.
(Ironically, Obama recently said through a spokesman that he is
