Emotional Learning, or SEL.

in part: "The legislature finds that basic education instruction in public schools in Washington state
should include not only instruction in core

throats really), along with of course, the necessary funding to pay
for it all. Now most of us know that the state is broke and trying to cut
expenses and raise taxes, all at the same time. We have no idea where they
are going to get the money (our tax money) to fund
this folly.

Learning? From the "New York Child Study Center" we learn that:
"Emotional intelligence (EQ) is not a new
concept; it was around as long ago as Socrates, who had these wise words of
advice: Know Thyself. Hundreds of years later, we have begun to formalize
Socrates’ philosophies into what has become known as social and emotional
learning (SEL), the learning process by which we can aspire to a higher EQ.
Studies show that EQ is the best predictor of a child’s future achievement;
better than any other single factor. EQ is a better predictor of success than IQ
and technical skills combined. In the 1980s, Howard Gardner, in his important
work on multiple intelligences, outlined the presence of seven domains of
intelligence; two of them were interpersonal and intrapersonal – these combined
were the forerunner of what we now know as emotional intelligence. The term was
first coined by Peter Salovey, professor and psychologist at Yale University,
and John Mayer, professor and psychologist at the University of New Hampshire.

Well, we’ve heard rumors of this, and enemy nations have proposed this,
but now it’s official: The head of the IMF has proposed a new reserve
currency, other than the U.S. Dollar. This is the boldest attack
against the dollar yet.
American people, against our nation, against the free world, but sadly,
our current "leadership" is more likely to help with this attack on
America than to defend our interests.

IMF’s Strauss-Kahn suggests IMF may one day provide global reserve asset
Dominique
Strauss-Kahn, the head of the International Monetary Fund, suggested
Friday the organization might one day be called on to provide countries
with a global reserve currency that would serve as an alternative to
the U.S. dollar.
"That
day has not yet come, but I think it is intellectually healthy to
explore these kinds of ideas now," he said in a speech on the future
mandate of the 186-nation Washington-based lending organization.
Strauss-Kahn
said such an asset could be similar to but distinctly different from
the IMF’s special drawing rights, or SDRs, the accounting unit that
countries use to hold funds within the IMF. It is based on a basket of
major currencies.
He
said having other alternatives to the dollar "would limit the extent to
which the international monetary system as a whole depends on the
policies and conditions of a single, albeit dominant, country."
Strauss-Kahn,
a former finance minister of France, said that during the recent global
financial crisis, the dollar "played its role as a safe haven" asset,
and the current international monetary system demonstrated resilience.
"The
challenge ahead is to find ways to limit the tension arising from the
high demand for precautionary reserves on the one hand and the narrow
supply of reserves on the other," he said.
Several
countries, including China and Russia, have called for an alternative
to the dollar as a reserve currency and have suggested using the IMF’s
internal accounting unit.
Strauss-Kahn said the IMF also needs to do a better job of tracing how risk percolates through the global economy.
"Here
it will be essential to improve our ability to monitor several dozen
large complex financial institutions that make up the `plumbing’
through which global capital flows," he said, while leaving national
regulators the job of monitoring the solvency of individual
institutions.

Joe Biden’s Deceptive Celebration

Well,
once again Barack Obama’s schedule conflicts with mine. The President
has announced that he will host a “bipartisan summit” on healthcare
this coming Thursday in Washington.
I say “this coming Thursday,” but by the time you read this, it will
have been “yesterday.” That’s because I submit this column five days
before you read it. So my comments about the healthcare summit—like the
one last month, on POTUS’ SOTUS—will have to wait for a week-plus after
the event. (In case you’re not up on your Washington acronyms, POTUS’
SOTUS stands for the President of the United States’ State of the Union
Speech.)
Every week I write three columns for Personal Liberty Alerts, the wonderful free ezine you just clicked on. Straight Talk (the one you’re reading now) is the lead column every Friday morning. Also on Friday, I write a mini-column called Chip Shots that is the last item on the page. Chip Shots,
as the name implies, is a collection of interesting little tidbits from
the news. (For example, in today’s effort the first item is the
scariest proposal to come out of Washington in a long, long time.)
Then on Wednesday I write another mini-column called This Week in History.
This one gives me an opportunity to look back over the past 200 years
and select one meaningful event to share with you. For example, two
days ago I wrote about “The worst-ever addition” to the U.S.
Constitution. Hint: It happened 94 years ago and costs you a ton of
money every year. To read it, or any of the past columns, click on the
archives tab to the right of this column.
The reason I mention all of this now is that today’s column is about
another event in history—the signing one year ago this week of Barack
Obama’s $787 “stimulus” bill.
Yes, the White House wants to go all-out to rewrite history about
the biggest spending bill in history. It has announced that Vice
President Joe Biden and various Federal officials will fan out across
the country to speak at numerous rallies that are being staged to
“celebrate” this wonderful program.
But what the heck are they celebrating? Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) said
recently that any businessman in this country who has hired one new
worker has done more for jobs creation than all of Obama’s hundreds of
billions.
When he signed the bill into law 12 months ago, President Obama
promised that unemployment would never get above 8 percent. A few
months later it passed 10 percent. And even that figure is dishonestly
low. It does not include anyone who has gotten so discouraged he has
stopped looking for work. Nor does it include anyone who lost a
full-time job and was forced to accept a part-time job at much lower
pay.
The real unemployment figure in this country is at least double the reported number. And it’s probably much higher than that. But don’t count on Obama and his buddies to tell you the truth.
And don’t expect them to tell you the truth about any jobs that were
created, either. A year ago, President Obama fully promised that 90
percent of the new jobs would be created in the private sector. An
analysis by The New York Times found “the data suggests that
well over half of the jobs claimed so far have been in the public
sector.” Isn’t that great? Your tax dollars are being used to make our
gargantuan government even bigger.
And how about this? We now know that hundreds of millions of stimulus money was spent to create jobs overseas! Thousands of jobs that the White House claimed to have created are in places that don’t even exist! Plus, USA Today
reported recently that billions of stimulus dollars are being spent on
programs that are so inefficient or redundant that the Administration
now wants to cut or eliminate them.
Please tell us, Joe: What the heck will you be “celebrating” this week?
One more rant and I’ll get off this soapbox. When he signed this
odious piece of legislation a year ago, our president declared that the
money would be spent on “shovel-ready” programs. Every penny would go
to work promptly, we were assured, to patch roads, repair bridges,
improve sanitation and otherwise fix our shaky infrastructure.
Today, one year later, only one-third of the
stimulus funds have actually been spent. Did you know that? Were you
aware that of all the money Congress appropriated for this pork-packed
monstrosity, a little more than $500 billion remains unspent?
Barack Obama wants to send Joe Biden around the country, bragging
about what a spectacular success the stimulus package has been. And the
VP—who has absolutely no problem claiming that black is white, hot is
cold and wet is dry, if that’s what his boss wants—cheerfully goes
along with the fraud.
But the American people haven’t been fooled. A recent New York Times/CBS News poll reported that only 6 percent of the public thinks the stimulus bill has created any jobs.
Let me repeat that number: Just six Americans out of 100 believe
Obama’s $787 billion stimulus bill did what it was supposed to do. No
wonder the White House has told its many minions not to use the word
“stimulus” any more. Now it’s a “jobs creation” program. Or maybe a
“jobs savings” program. At least that’s what Biden and Obama hope it
will turn out to be… for them.
Before I get off my soapbox for another week, let me mention one
more deceit that President Obama loves to utter. Time after time, he
defends his massive deficits and budget-busting spending programs by
claiming that he inherited “a trillion-dollar deficit” from President
Bush.
No, he didn’t. While I’m no fan of the debt George W. piled on the backs of us poor taxpayers, his last deficit was less than half
the total our Dissembler in Chief likes to claim. Here are the facts:
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office reports that George Bush’s
deficit for fiscal 2008 was $454.8 billion. While that’s a lot of red
ink, it’s less than half of the number Obama likes to use.
To get the higher number, the White House engages in some sneaky
slight-of-hand. It adds $700 billion from the Troubled Asset Relief
Program (TARP) to the CBO number, thus coming up with a deficit of over
$1 trillion.
The problem with that particular bit of chicanery is that the
Treasury only spent $400 billion of the TARP funds while Dubya was
still in office. The other $300 billion was handed over to President
Obama and Treasury Secretary Geithner in early 2009.
And here’s one more little factoid these grand deceivers like to
ignore: Most of the funds the Bush Administration paid out have been
returned to the U.S. Treasury… with interest.
So if smilin’ Joe Biden comes to your town and hosts a public rally
bragging about all the wonderful things the Obama Administration has
done to create jobs with your tax dollars, use the information in this
report to set the record straight.
After all, that’s why it’s called Straight Talk.

Obama’s Boss: Ready to Torpedo the Euro

It’s astonishing that so many commentators seem genuinely confused
about the real power behind the Democrats. They talk about Obama’s
plans as if he were some kind of normal president who just happens to
be very bad at it. In reality, Obama has little sway over his own
operation. All the ruminating about whether Obama will now move toward
the center or modify his policies to reflect the will of the people is
sophomoric. It is inexplicable to suggest that Obama has the freedom
to run afoul of his boss’s orders.
Ed Lasky at American Thinker explains how Obama’s boss, unrepentant Nazi collaborator, George Soros enjoys the benefits of liberal hypocrisy as well as America’s misery:
“The Democratic Party preaches that it is for the
little guy and bashes Wall Street and bankers mercilessly. Yet it
remains silent on the machinations of their patron saint, George Soros.
He funds think tanks galore. He created the Center for American
Progress—Obama’s think-tank and hiring hall. The CAP is an adjunct of
the Democratic Party, peddling its ideas throughout the media
landscape. Soros has an empire of 527 groups he uses to elect Democrats
and promote their policies. He is the top
funder of such shadowy groups, and his billionaire political allies
(Peter Lewis, Herb and Marion Sandler—also big funders of the CAP—round
up the top five). Soros was an early and ardent supporter of Barack
Obama—even using a loophole in federal campaign loans to exceed normal limits on donations.”
Soros maintains a super secret hedge fund, the Quantum Fund which is
held overseas. As Democrats posture about how they care for the little
guy, they take great care to protect Soros and his hedge fund investors:
“Democrats have been major beneficiaries of hedge fund
managers making donations to their party and to its politicians.
Senator Chris Dodd was the number one beneficiary of their largesse
until Barack Obama emerged as a presidential candidate; Obama became
the “hedge fund candidate.”
“We heard a great deal in the campaign about the need to regulate hedge funds,
but very little has been accomplished. There has been no requirement
that hedge funds domiciled overseas (as is Soros’s) reveal their investors.
The huge leverage hedge funds can assume is still a problem. As
chairman of the House Banking Committee, Chris Dodd could have acted,
but he took a pass. He is the Senator from Connecticut, where many
hedge funds have offices and many managers live the good life there.
Dodd is on his way out. Here is one wager I would like to make: he
will, one way or another, be well-compensated in future years with
money from hedge funds.”
Obama’s boss also cashed in by betting against the US housing
market, making billions during the collapse which was caused by his
peons in the Democrat party.
Lasky warns that Soros’ next caper will be an assault on the Euro:
“Some heavyweight hedge funds have launched large bearish bets against the euro in moves that are reminiscent of the trading action at the height of the U.S. financial crisis.
“The big bets are emerging amid gatherings such as an exclusive
‘idea dinner ’earlier this month that included hedge-fund titans SAC
Capital Advisors LP and Soros Fund Management
LLC. During the dinner, hosted by a boutique investment bank at a
private townhouse in Manhattan, a small group of all-star hedge-fund
managers argued that the euro is likely to fall to ‘parity’—or equal on
an exchange basis—with the dollar, people close to the situation say. “
“’This is an opportunity…to make a lot of money,’ says Hans
Hufschmid, a former senior Salomon Brothers executive who now runs
GlobeOp Financial Services SA, a hedge-fund administrator in London and New York.”
“It is impossible to calculate the precise effect of the elite traders’
bearish bets, but they have added to the selling pressure on the
currency-and thus to the pressure on the European Union to stem the
Greek debt crisis.”
One of the most dangerous men in the world gets to stay below the
radar. Few Americans know much about Soros. Many actually consider
George Soros to be some sort of philanthropist. Soros certainly gives
lots of money away. But a philanthropist acts to improve the human
condition. Soros acts solely to improve the Soros condition.

Obama and Democrats’ Unprecedented Attack against American People and the Obama Summit

For the first time since the loyalists to King George III and the
British army moved against the American colonists and patriots, the US
government is moving en masse to both stop and silence any opposition
from the American people to Obama and any and all of his and his
Marxist-Democrats.
While
watching Thursday’s faux Obama-organized Health Care Summit (planned as
a day of photo-ops and sound-bites for Obama‘s 2012 campaign), it
became clear to me and others that the Democrat leadership had and have
no intention of listening to sound arguments against the ObamaCare
Death Plan, Cap & Trade or any of the other ulterior-motive
clandestine procedures they have planned against We-the-People.
Instead, Harry Reid had already announced the day
before—Wednesday—that he and the Dems would affect reconciliation (the
“ramming and shoving” process), probably next week, in the Senate in
order to force the despotic ObamaCare Death Plan onto us. Note:
Reconciliation—incorporating a simple and not a super majority—is
supposed to be used for budgetary items.
In fact, this Obama “summit” quickly degraded and devolved into
Obama shutting down any and all Republican who offered alternate
proposals and opposing comments while Democrats engaged in ongoing
“kiss the tyrant” moments. In fact, Obama told Republicans that he
could speak as long as he wanted because…“I’m the president!”
Apparently, the rest of the Democrat leadership believed the same about
their own self-inflated self-importance as comment-time from the
far-left was twice as long as comments from the right. Note: That’s
also “right” as in “correct.”
During Thursday’s Health Care Summit, I viewed the patently
totalitarian Marxist-Democrat Party telling We-the-People that we no
longer matter to them. Our voices are—once and for all per the
Democrats—of no further importance. Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), Speaker of
the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Dictator-in-Chief Obama made it
crystal clear that the American people WILL accept whatever draconian
plans they force upon them—and like it—or else. Each and every time the
questioning and contradictions from the right to false statements made
by the dictator-in-chief became too uncomfortable for his fragile ego’
or simply presented the truth in too bright a light, Obama shut down
the questioner with reprimands similar to ‘you’re off of the subject’
or ‘stop your talking points’ or ‘the campaign is over and I won’.
During much of the time Representative Eric Cantor (R-VA) was
quoting directly from one of the voluminous Democrat ObamaCare plans,
Obama refused to make eye contact with him and, with increasingly
tightly-pursed lips, started shuffling through some of the papers in

As long as any of the Marxist-Democrat Party members are in power,
their abuses of said power will continue to escalate. This is what
despots do. When asked at the ObamaSummit if the Democrat leadership
was even listening to the American people, the response was either
silence or a quick change of the subject.
Not since the first American Revolution War officially began in 1775
has the oppression against We-the-People from an opposition government
been so intense and so relentless. Now, for the first time in our
history, the majority leadership within the US Government is moving
against its own people with increasing alacrity, force and
determination. They have told us and continue to shout to us in myriad
ways that they will refuse to listen to anything we say unless it is to
thank them (our new “masters”) for placing us into bondage and slavery.
Despite increasingly overwhelming opposition from the American
people to Obama’s and the Democrats’ Orwellian plans for us, they are
moving even faster and harder to oppress us and shut us up. This is how
tyrannies are formed, folks. And we are now firmly
smack-dab-in-the-middle of our own.

Simon Jenkins raises a question that has been nagging at me for some time. Why is there no British Tea Party?
Where are the crowds of revenue slaves flocking to London to demand
redress for the squandering of their money? Marginal tax is rising to
50%, VAT to 17.5% and state spending towards half the national product.
The Treasury has lost control of public finance. So why no furious
blue-rinses, bail-out haters, bonus-bleaters and embittered VAT victims
storming Parliament?
Yeah: why? Some of my US readers believe that anti-tax rebellions are
an American speciality, but we’ve had plenty of them in this country,
from the Poll Tax Riots of 1381 (the Peasants’ Revolt) to the Poll Tax
Riots of 1990. The doctrines that inspired the Boston mutineers – above
all, the idea that taxes should not be levied without parliamentary
process – were borrowed from English political theory.
Indeed, as Hugh Brogan drily observed in his History of the United
States, the taxpayers’ revolt which sparked the American Revolution
began on this side of the Atlantic: the Seven Years War had pushed
taxes up to 25 shillings a year for the average Englishman as against
sixpence for the average colonist, and MPs were determined to export
part of that cost to North America.
Of course, there was an extra dimension to the Boston Tea Party: “No
Taxation without Representation!” Taxes in the UK may be excessive but
they have, so far, been set by our own government. This, though, is
changing. If there was one theme that came out of the hearings for the
new European Commissioners, it was their determination to create a
direct revenue stream for the EU. Herman Van Rompuy, a declared
enthusiast for the global managament of our planet, maintains that
“recent developments in the euro area highlight the urgent need to
strengthen our economic governance,” (hat-tip, Stephen Castle).
“Whether it is called coordination of policies or economic government,
only the European Council is capable of delivering and sustaining a
common European strategy for more growth and more jobs.”
Britain, in other words, has all the conditions necessary for a popular
anti-tax movement. Not only are levies high and rising; they are being
imposed by rulers over whom we have no control. We need our own Tea
Party Movement. Who will help me run one?

the Principled Patriots in Britain who’ve had enough, aside from Daniel
Hannan? Have they all come here to America? Are there any left over

Money". It’s a common phrase and is relevant to so many
different situations.

climate research, to the tune of around $4 Billion a year. We say
"so-called" scientific climate research, because it isn’t science at all.
This kind of "science" starts with an "outcome", that man is causing global
warming and then "fudges", "fiddles" and "manipulates" the data to support
the outcome. It’s called Made-As-Instructed science. It
isn’t real science, but that is where the money is going. Because you
see, those in power exploit the doctored science and use the
"outcome" to make policy and to "lie" to the public by telling them that the
science and the outcome are sound and the policy is absolutely necessary.
